About Me

Hello! I’m Noel

Abstract Landscape ARTIST

Noel Soucy has developed her own voice and style through years of playing with different techniques and mediums. Her contemporary landscape and abstract pieces are inspired by the nature around her. Her explorations outside largely mirror her explorations in the studio as she captures the beauty of Maine’s landscapes.  Image evolves freely as she layers color and texture, rubbing back and building up, scratching into the surface and working with palette knives and brushes until the character of the scene emerges. Noel is an exhibiting member in the Seacoast Artist Association, Loading Dock Gallery and Newburyport Art Association.

My Process

I paint in my studio, where I continue to layer and develop my piece until it resonates with meaning. Inspired by the forests and marshes near my home in Southern Maine, I am often drawn to nature-inspired scenes that represent my connection with the world. My surroundings have a profound impact on my work. It is through my painting, that I am able to remember these places. The color gradient across a blue sky, the meanders of a marshy inlets, the intersecting shapes of birch trees – all of these details last with me, inspiring me when I get into the studio. Here, I can create my remembered layered landscapes of quietness and solitude – landscapes that transport me right back to being surrounded by the natural world.

As I paint, I recreate a scene through my imagination and memory of a place, embedding the artwork with my unique perspective and rememberings. Each one tells a story of my time in the beaches, forests, marshes, and rocky shores of Maine. It is my hope that my paintings also help you remember a special place.
